How to make crypto TikToks: formats, platform rules and what never to show
Crypto does well on TikTok, and it is also one of the topics TikTok watches most closely. Here are the rules as TikTok writes them, the formats that work inside them, how to film on an iPhone, how creators get paid, and the things that should never appear on screen.
Published:
To make crypto TikToks that last, choose formats that teach or entertain instead of promising returns, make your own screens, disclose any paid or own-product promotion with TikTok's content disclosure setting, and never show your real wallet, address or recovery phrase. TikTok allows financial education but bans get-rich-quick schemes and fake investment offers.
TikTok's rules for crypto content, in one table
Most "how to make crypto TikToks" advice skips straight to hooks. Start with the rules instead, because on TikTok they decide reach before the hook gets a chance. The Community Guidelines below were released on August 25, 2026 and took effect on September 24, 2026; the Branded Content Policy took effect on August 31, 2026.
| Topic | What TikTok says | What it means for crypto |
|---|---|---|
| Education | Financial education and information about financial products and services is allowed | Explainers are fine |
| High-risk financial services | Trading, marketing or providing access to them is not allowed | No pushing predatory or opaque products |
| Frauds and scams | Fake investment offers, get-rich-quick schemes and teaching scams are not allowed | No promised returns, no "how I made 10x" |
| Commercial disclosure | Use the content disclosure setting when promoting your own product or anything you get an incentive for | Your course, your group, a sponsor |
| Branded content | A commission through an affiliate link or promo code counts; financial services are restricted | An exchange referral link is branded content |
| AI and edited media | Label AI or significantly edited content showing realistic scenes or people | A caption or sticker works too |
| For You feed | Unoriginal content and misleading claims meant to boost views are ineligible | Reposted clips and fake hype lose reach |
The branded content row deserves a closer look. TikTok defines branded content to include a product for which you earn a commission, via an affiliate link or a promotional code. It prohibits branded content for financial services such as pyramid schemes, too-good-to-be-true offers and get-rich-quick schemes, and lists financial services, including investment services and the management of money assets, as restricted: you can only post such content if an approved brand invited you through TikTok One. In the United States and the United Kingdom it is limited to adults in the market where it was posted, and in a long list of countries, from Ireland to New Zealand, it is not allowed at all.
Crypto TikTok formats that work inside those rules
Seven formats cover most of what does well, and each comes with a screen to plan:
- The one-minute explainer. One concept, such as what a gas fee is, over a chart or a diagram. One minute is also the minimum length for Creator Rewards.
- The news reaction. A headline on screen and your take. Add real commentary: reused content without creative edits is kept out of the For You feed.
- The chart breakdown. If the chart comes from TradingView, its terms require visible attribution, or a "Charts by TradingView" credit.
- The scam warning. TikTok explicitly allows educational content that raises awareness. Show a fake airdrop from the victim's side; a how-to for running a scam is banned.
- The skit or POV. Fiction is allowed unless it gives real-world access to regulated products. See how to make a POV crypto trader video.
- The app walkthrough. How a swap or a wallet works, step by step, on a screen recording.
- The portfolio reveal. Popular and risky; crypto portfolio reveal videos covers how to do it without doxxing a wallet.
Forty more ideas, sorted by goal, are in crypto video ideas. If you want to stay off camera entirely, faceless crypto channels shows how those videos are built.
What never to show in a crypto TikTok
- A recovery phrase or private key, even blurred, even an old one.
- Your real address or a Receive QR code. Anyone with your address can read its balances, token holdings and full history on a block explorer.
- Your real balance or activity. A hide toggle masks the total but not the rest; see what the hide balance toggle still shows.
- Notifications. A banner announcing an incoming transfer is a classic slip in screen recordings.
- Promised returns or earnings claims. They are the core of what TikTok calls get-rich-quick schemes.
- An undisclosed link. A referral link with a commission is branded content.
- A simulated balance presented as yours. More on that below.
How to make crypto TikToks on iPhone
- Silence the phone: under Settings, Notifications, set previews to Never for wallet and messaging apps, or turn on a Focus, which delays notifications.
- Record the screen: open Control Center, tap the gray Record button and wait for the three-second countdown; touch and hold it first if you want the microphone on.
- Film only public pages (an explorer, a project site, a headline) or a simulated wallet, never your own accounts.
- Edit, add captions, and keep the video at one minute or more if you aim for Creator Rewards.
- When posting, switch on the content disclosure setting if anything is paid or yours, and the AI label if any realistic footage was generated.
How to make crypto TikToks for money
TikTok's Creator Rewards Program terms (updated July 20, 2026) require creators to be 18 or older, to have at least 10,000 authentic followers and 100,000 authentic video views in the 30 days before applying, and to link a payment account registered in their own name. Rewards apply to eligible videos of at least one minute and depend on legitimate views and engagement, and TikTok may cap them. Anything beyond that, such as sponsorships, affiliate links or your own course, is commercial content with the disclosure and branded content rules above.
For reach, TikTok's guidelines add that a video kept off the For You feed can still be found through search and your profile, and that your analytics show whether a video was made ineligible for recommendation. When a crypto TikTok stalls, check that first.
The same video on Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts
Most creators post the same video in three places, and the rules differ. Meta requires its branded content tool for paid partnerships, prohibits branded content for initial coin offerings, binary options and contract for difference trading, and requires written pre-authorization from Meta for cryptocurrency products and services partners. Instagram also avoids recommending content largely repurposed from elsewhere with only minor edits. On YouTube, paid promotion is declared with a box in the video details that adds a label at the start, and promoting get-rich-quick investment schemes breaks its scams policy.
The wallet on screen
Look back at the formats: the walkthrough, the skit, the reveal and many explainers all need a wallet on screen. Filmed from your own phone, that wallet shows an address, a history and a balance, and a TikTok is downloaded, paused and re-posted. There is a category of app built for exactly this shot.
A larp wallet, also called a crypto wallet app simulator, is an app that shows a believable crypto wallet screen built from the balances you type in, for videos, skits, pitch decks and demos. It holds no funds and touches no blockchain.
You set the tokens and amounts the script needs, open it full screen, and record it like any app, with nothing that leads back to you. My Larp Wallet is one such app, which we make.
Where the line is
On TikTok, this matters more than anywhere. A large balance shown as real, from an account selling a course, a group or a coin, is what the platform bans as a fake investment offer or a get-rich-quick scheme. A simulated wallet is a prop for a skit, a tutorial or an illustration. It is never proof of holdings or gains. Keep a visible "Mockup" or "Simulated wallet" caption on screen, never use it to sell, and know that passing it off as real is deception, which our terms of use forbid.

Questions
Is crypto content allowed on TikTok?
Yes. TikTok's Community Guidelines list financial education and information about financial products and services as allowed. What they ban is marketing or giving access to high-risk financial services, fake investment offers and get-rich-quick schemes, and teaching people how to carry out scams.
How do you make money from crypto TikToks?
Through the Creator Rewards Program, which pays on videos of at least one minute from creators who are 18 or older, have 10,000 authentic followers and 100,000 authentic views in the last 30 days, with a payment account in their own name. Brand deals and affiliate links count as branded content, and financial services are a restricted category for it.
How do you make crypto TikToks more popular?
Stay eligible for the For You feed: TikTok leaves out reused content without creative edits and misleading claims meant to boost views, and may restrict realistic AI content posted without a label. TikTok's analytics show whether a video was made ineligible for recommendation, which is the first thing to check when views drop.
Do crypto TikToks need a disclaimer?
A paid or own-product video needs TikTok's content disclosure setting, which labels it; repeated failures can lead to a ban. Realistic AI or heavily edited footage needs an AI label or a clear caption. A line such as not financial advice is neither of these and does not replace them.
How do you make crypto TikToks on iPhone?
Record the screen from Control Center, with notification previews set to Never or a Focus on so no banner appears, then edit in TikTok or another editor. Film public pages or a simulated wallet rather than your own accounts, and add the disclosure settings when you post.
