How to start a crypto YouTube channel in 2026 without showing your money

Starting a crypto channel takes an afternoon. Starting one that is hard to hijack, hard to trace back to your savings and eligible for YouTube money takes a few decisions most beginners skip. Here they are in order, with YouTube's 2026 rules and the 2027 changes already announced.

To start a crypto YouTube channel in 2026, pick a format rather than a coin, create the channel under a Brand Account name, verify a phone number to unlock custom thumbnails and longer videos, turn on 2-Step Verification, set comment moderation before the first upload, and never film your own wallet. Ad revenue opens at 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 watch hours or 10 million Shorts views.

What a new crypto channel is up against

Crypto is one of the easiest niches to start on YouTube: there is news every day, beginners search the same questions every week, and nobody needs expensive gear to explain a gas fee. It is also one of the niches where small mistakes cost the most. Channels get hijacked and turned into crypto scam streams, comment sections attract copycat accounts, and a host who once showed a wallet on camera has published where the money is.

None of that is a reason not to start. It is a reason to make five decisions before the first upload instead of after the first problem.

Step 1: pick a format, not a coin

Channels built around one coin live and die with it. Channels built around a format survive the market: the weekly recap, the glossary in sixty seconds, the scam breakdown, the history story, the beginner tutorial. Forty formats sorted by goal are in crypto video ideas. For a name, describe the format or the audience rather than a promise of gains.

Two YouTube rules shape the choice early. Its monetization policies expect each video to be materially varied: templated storylines, image slideshows and scrolling text with little narrative are listed as not monetizable. And channels that use AI-generated personas to give advice on sensitive topics cannot monetize at all; YouTube's own example is "AI-generated podcast hosts offering financial guidance, investment tips, or wealth management advice." If you want to stay off camera, faceless crypto channels covers how to do it with your own voice and screens.

Step 2: set up the channel apart from your personal life

Step 3: lock the account before anyone notices it

In October 2021, Google's Threat Analysis Group described a campaign it had been disrupting since late 2019. Attackers sent creators forged collaboration offers impersonating real companies, then a "demo" of the sponsor's software that was in fact cookie-stealing malware. With the stolen session, they took over the channel, then sold it or rebranded it. In the group's words, "a large number of hijacked channels were rebranded for cryptocurrency scam live-streaming", impersonating large tech or exchange firms and promising giveaways in exchange for an initial contribution. Google reported restoring about 4,000 accounts.

Step 4: set comment moderation before the first video

A familiar crypto comment scam is an account that copies a creator's name and picture and invites viewers to "message me" on another app. YouTube's impersonation policy bans comments that make people falsely think you are another person, but removal comes after the fact. The filters work before:

Step 5: the first ten videos

#VideoWhat is on screen
1What this channel is, as a ShortYou or your voice, three example topics
2What a crypto wallet is, screen by screenA wallet app, receive to swap
3The week in cryptoThree headlines with their sources
4One term in sixty seconds, as a ShortA diagram and captions
5Anatomy of a scam messageA redacted message, annotated
6Custodial or self-custody?Two app screens side by side
7A history story from the public recordCourt filings, press headlines, a timeline
8A tutorial on a test networkA screen recording with test tokens
9Questions from the commentsThe question on screen, your answer
10A skit, as a ShortA phone screen that shows the punchline

Shorts can now run up to three minutes, in a square or vertical frame. A Short about crypto trading works best as a lesson on a past chart or a demo account labeled as such, never as a profit screen. Thumbnails get their own guide in crypto YouTube thumbnails. If a sponsor pays you, tick the paid promotion box in the video details, which adds a disclosure label at the start; the legal rules by country are in finfluencer rules for crypto creators.

Monetization: the 2026 numbers and the 2027 changes

Ad revenue in the YouTube Partner Program requires 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 qualified watch hours on long videos in the last 365 days or 10 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days, and you must be 18 or have a guardian who handles payments. Channel memberships open at 500 subscribers with 3 public uploads in 90 days and 3,000 watch hours or 3 million Shorts views. When YouTube reviews a channel, it may look at the main theme, the most viewed and newest videos, the metadata including thumbnails, and the About section.

On August 10, 2026, YouTube announced the first significant changes since 2018, effective February 1, 2027: new applicants will need 8,000 watch hours or 20 million Shorts views for ad and Premium revenue, and sharing in Shorts revenue will require 10 million qualified Shorts views over the last 90 days, even inside the program. In the United States, monetizing creators submit a W-9 in AdSense for YouTube. The other income lines, from sponsors to courses, are in how crypto influencers make money.

The wallet you show from day one

Look at the first ten videos again: the wallet explainer, the custodial comparison, the tutorial and the skit all need a wallet on screen, and a new channel will make dozens more like them. Recording your own wallet for each one ties your face or voice to an address, and anyone with an address can follow its balance and history. Security firms list public displays of holdings among the ways people get picked as targets: Chainalysis found most violent attacks on crypto holders it assessed were premeditated, with victims selected through exposed information such as social media activity; wrench attacks and crypto creators sets out the evidence.

That is the gap a different kind of app fills. A larp wallet, also called a crypto wallet app simulator, is an app that shows a believable crypto wallet screen built from the balances you type in, for videos, skits, pitch decks and demos. It holds no funds and touches no blockchain.

You type the tokens the script needs, open it full screen and record, the same way for every video, with nothing behind it to look up. My Larp Wallet is one such app, which we make.

Where the line is

A simulated wallet is a prop for explaining, comparing and staging. It is never proof of holdings or results. Label it "Mockup" on screen whenever it appears, never call it your portfolio, and never put it next to a referral link, a course or a coin you promote. YouTube's Spam Policy bans promoting "get rich quick" investment schemes, and passing a simulated balance off as real is deception, which our terms of use forbid.

Questions

How do I start a crypto YouTube channel as a beginner?

Choose a format you can repeat, such as a weekly news recap, a glossary series or scam breakdowns. Create the channel under a Brand Account so it can use a name other than your own, verify a phone number, secure the account with 2-Step Verification, set comment moderation, then publish ten videos before judging anything.

How many subscribers do you need to make money on YouTube?

For ad revenue, 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 qualified watch hours in 12 months or 10 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days. Channel memberships open earlier, at 500 subscribers with 3 uploads in 90 days and 3,000 watch hours or 3 million Shorts views. From February 1, 2027, new applicants for ad revenue will need 8,000 watch hours or 20 million Shorts views.

Can I use an AI presenter for a crypto channel?

You can publish it, but YouTube will not monetize it. Its monetization policies exclude channels that use AI-generated personas to give advice on sensitive topics, and name AI-generated podcast hosts offering financial guidance or investment tips as an example.

How do I start a crypto YouTube channel in the USA?

The steps are the same everywhere. Once you monetize, US creators submit a W-9 form in AdSense for YouTube. Without valid tax info, Google applies backup withholding of 24% on individual accounts' total earnings worldwide.

Why do crypto YouTube channels get hacked?

Because a hijacked channel is worth money to scammers. Google's Threat Analysis Group documented attackers who sent fake sponsorship offers with malware, stole session cookies, and turned many hijacked channels into crypto scam live streams. Turn on 2-Step Verification and do not run software a sponsor sends.
