Mac app screenshot sizes: four numbers, all 16:10
The Mac list is the shortest of the whole App Store, and the one where a window screenshot most often has the wrong shape.

Mac apps require screenshots, and only four sizes are accepted: 1280 × 800, 1440 × 900, 2560 × 1600 and 2880 × 1800 — every one of them 16:10.
Four sizes, two ratios' worth of confusion

Why a real window capture almost never fits
Because a window is whatever shape you dragged it to, and a display is whatever shape it is — a 16:9 monitor, a 3:2 laptop, an ultrawide. None of those is 16:10. So the file that comes out of a keyboard shortcut is the one size Apple will not take.
The fix is compositional rather than technical: place the window on a 16:10 canvas instead of cropping it to 16:10. Cropping eats the window's own chrome, which is the part that says « this is a Mac app ».
Pick the pair, not the size
The four sizes are really two designs at two scales. Compose once at 1440 × 900 and export at 2880 × 1800; or compose at 1280 × 800 and export at 2560 × 1600. Anything else means laying out the same screenshot twice for no gain.
