App Store Connect
1320 × 2868 px
Screenshots taken on this iPhone 18 Pro Max (1320 × 2868 px) upload as is into the 6.9-inch slot, but that slot is optional: when it is empty, App Store Connect scales down your 6.5-inch set. Apple now requires one 6.3-inch set (1179 × 2556 or 1206 × 2622): “At least one screenshot for iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display).”
iPhone 6.9″ Display slot, portrait Apple: “iPhone with Dynamic Island (large display)”
Apple: “If screenshots with the accepted sizes aren't provided, scaled screenshots for iPhone with Face ID (large display) are used.”
- 1 to 10 screenshots per slot and per language
- .jpeg, .jpg, .png
- No alpha channel: “Images can't include alpha channels or transparencies.”
No 6.3-inch iPhone at hand? Run your app in the Simulator on an iPhone 18 Pro and capture it: the file comes out at 1206 × 2622 but with an alpha channel, which Apple’s rule excludes. The second command removes it.

App previews (video)
15 to 30 seconds, up to 3 per slot, 500 MB at most, 30 fps at most; H.264 (.mov .m4v .mp4, 10-12 Mbps) or ProRes 422 HQ (.mov). The upload size is not the device’s screenshot size.

What changed at Apple
Apple’s screenshot page is dated 8 October 2026; this calculator was last compared with it on 12 October 2026.
- App Store Connect’s screenshot page is rewritten. It now names the required iPhone set, “At least one screenshot for iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display)”: the 6.3-inch slot, 1206 × 2622 or 1179 × 2556. Until then a 6.9-inch set met the requirement on its own. The same page still says the 6.5-inch slot is “Required if app runs on iPhone and screenshots for iPhone with Dynamic Island (large display) aren’t provided”. Slots are no longer named by their diagonal: the 6.9-inch slot is now “iPhone with Dynamic Island (large display)”. The 6.1-inch slot now falls back on the 6.3-inch set, and the 6.9 and 6.5-inch slots on each other. iPhone Duo: “Starting in April 2027, screenshots will be required for any app using the iOS 27.1 SDK or later.” No accepted size changed. The Web Archive’s copy of 6 October already has the new page; its current version is dated 8 October.
- App Store Connect’s screenshot page adds the iPhone 18 Pro Max (6.9-inch slot) and the iPhone 18 Pro (6.3-inch), and a new iPhone Duo slot: 1398 × 2034 for the outer display, 2007 × 2853 for the inner one, with uploads “available later this year”. On the Apple Watch line, 422 × 514 now also names the Ultra 4 and 416 × 496 the Series 12. The Web Archive’s copies date it: none of this is on the copy of 30 July, all of it is on the copy of 16 September. That version was dated 17 September.
- The Human Interface Guidelines Layout page no longer carries its table of device screen sizes. The geometry on this page comes from Xcode’s device profiles and the Simulator instead.
Where these numbers come from
- Accepted sizes, requirements, fallbacks and device lists: App Store Connect Help, Screenshot specifications, dated 8 October 2026. On 12 October 2026 every slot on this page was compared with that page, both ways: each size we list is on Apple’s page, in the same slot and with the same label, and each size Apple lists is here.
- App previews: App preview specifications, compared the same way. The rule that you “only need to provide screenshots for the highest required resolution” is in the Display scaling section of Screenshot specifications; the old Upload app previews and screenshots page now redirects to Manage your App Store assets.
- Panel pixels, scale, corner radius and Dynamic Island: the device profiles shipped with Xcode 27.0 (27A266a). Pixel density: Apple’s specification pages where they give one (the Simulator’s figure is not always the device’s: 326 ppi for the iPhone 8 Plus, whose specification says 401).
- Points, native scale, safe areas and status bar: read in the iOS 27.0 Simulator on 28 September 2026 by a one-screen probe app. A model that was not booted itself carries the reading of another one, and its card names it: a model with the same screen, or, for some iPads, another iPad (iPadOS 27 gave every iPad measured the same insets). iOS 27 does not run on the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, X, XS, XS Max and XR: the first five show the reading of a newer iPhone with the same screen, and the 8 Plus, which has none, is marked as not measurable. Xcode 27.0 has no iPhone Duo.
- Cross-check: in the Simulator the iPhone 16 gives a 59 pt top safe area, a 54 pt status bar and a 34 pt bottom inset, the same as our pixel measurement of a real screenshot.
- Simulator screenshots:
xcrun simctl iogives the right pixel size but a PNG with an alpha channel, on all 18 devices checked.sips -s format jpeg -s formatOptions 95 in.png --out out.jpggives the same size with no alpha.
Reuse: the numbers are free to reuse with a credit to My Larp Wallet. The whole table is also available as data: screenshot-sizes.json, with a source for every value.
Questions
What size should App Store screenshots be?
For iPhone, Apple now requires one set in the 6.3-inch slot, which it calls iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display): 1206 × 2622 or 1179 × 2556 pixels in portrait. App Store Connect scales it down to every smaller iPhone slot. Add a 6.9-inch set (1320 × 2868, 1290 × 2796 or 1260 × 2736) for the largest phones: Apple fills the 6.9 and 6.5-inch slots only from each other. If your app runs on iPad, add a 13-inch set: 2064 × 2752 or 2048 × 2732.
Why does App Store Connect say my screenshot dimensions are wrong?
Each slot accepts a short list of exact pixel sizes, with no tolerance. The usual causes are a file dropped in the wrong slot (a 1284 × 2778 image in the 6.9-inch slot), a size a few pixels off (1290 × 2790), or a device whose screenshots are on no list, like the iPhone 11 and XR (828 × 1792). The file check above names the slot a size belongs to.
Can I upload screenshots taken on my own iPhone?
Yes, if its size is on a list, which is true of every iPhone since the X except the 11 and the XR (the iPhone Duo is a case of its own, below). The size Apple now requires comes from the iPhone 14 Pro, 15, 15 Pro, 16, 16 Pro, 17, 17 Pro and 18 Pro: their screenshots go into the required 6.3-inch slot. Max models from the XS Max on, Plus models from the 14 Plus on and the iPhone Air fill the 6.9 or 6.5-inch slot. The iPhone Duo has a slot of its own (1398 × 2034 outer, 2007 × 2853 inner): Apple says its screenshots will be required from April 2027 for apps using the iOS 27.1 SDK or later, and does not say whether uploads are open today.
How tall are the status bar and safe area on iPhone?
It depends on the model. In the iOS 27 Simulator the top safe area is 68 pt on the iPhone Air; 62 pt on the 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max, 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max; 59 pt on the 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max, 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, 16 and 16 Plus; 50 pt on the 12 mini and 13 mini; 48 pt on the XR and 11; 47 pt on the 12, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max, 13, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max, 14, 14 Plus, 16e and 17e; 44 pt on the X, XS, XS Max, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max; 20 pt on the home-button models (8, SE (2nd generation) and SE (3rd generation)). The status bar inside it is 54 pt on Dynamic Island models and equals the safe area on the others. The bottom inset is 34 pt on every Face ID iPhone.
