Anime larp quiz: how deep do you larp?

A fan-made larp quiz for anime fans. Thirteen original questions on gatekeeping, borrowed Japanese, figure shelves and convention photos, each with a short read on what your answer says. You finish with a larp level and a card to save.

Your answers stay on this page. Nothing is sent, saved or stored, and there is no account. Like every page of this site it adds anonymous counts of starts and finishes (privacy). For fun, not proof.

Not affiliated with any anime series, producer or publisher. This quiz is fan-made, uses no images and names no series or character.

What does larp mean in anime fandom?

In anime fandom, larp means performing the fan instead of being one. The word comes from LARP, live action role play, and it came into the scene to describe people who dress up their taste as status: a shelf staged for a video call, Japanese phrases used to sound like an insider, or a watch count that grows with every retelling. The label is applied to the performance, not to the love of the shows.

The scene has its own rituals, and most of them are fun. Cosplay at a convention, a figure collection, an opening song stuck in your head, a trip to Japan that everyone hears about. None of that is larping. The word applies when the ritual stops being shared and starts being used as a rank, such as a trip used to correct people, a rare title used to win a conversation or a list of real fans that you decide who is on.

Gatekeeping is the most common version. Sub versus dub, manga versus anime, old versus new: these are taste debates until someone uses them to decide who belongs. Whoever decides who belongs is only claiming authority, and authority nobody gave you is exactly what role play is made of.

This quiz measures that gradient with thirteen original questions. It never asks about a specific series or a character, because the habits are the same across the whole medium. Each answer is worth zero to three points, and your larp level is the share of the total. The tiers range from just watching to a persona with a full schedule.

It is a joke made by people who like fandom jokes, with no images and no series named. The verdicts are written to be shared, and every result card carries the same line at the bottom: for fun, not proof.

Questions about this larp test

What does larp mean in anime?

In anime fandom, larp means performing the fan role instead of simply enjoying the shows: staged shelves, borrowed Japanese, inflated watch counts or gatekeeping. The word is short for live action role play and is usually used as a joke.

Is cosplay larping?

Not by itself. Cosplay at a convention is a shared game with rules everyone knows. It can tip into larp when someone stays in character in everyday life and expects others to play along.

Which series is this quiz about?

None. The questions are about fan habits that repeat across the whole medium, so no series or character is named and no images are used. It is not affiliated with any anime series, producer or publisher.

How is the larp level calculated?

Each answer carries zero to three points, from plainly casual to fully in character. Your level is your total divided by the maximum, shown as a percentage, and the verdict is the tier that percentage falls in.

Does this quiz save my answers?

No. The score is calculated in your browser, there is no account, and nothing you answer or paste is sent, saved or stored. The site only counts anonymous starts and finishes, like every page of it.

Is the result proof of anything?

No. Every result is for fun, not proof. A result card shows how you answered a quiz, never what you own, earn or are, and it carries no balance.
