How many screenshots an App Store listing takes

App Store Connect accepts one to ten screenshots per display class and per localisation, in .png, .jpg or .jpeg, with no alpha channel or transparency.
The limits
One minimum, ten maximum, per display class and per localisation. The formats
accepted are .png, .jpg and .jpeg, and
the file must carry no alpha channel or transparency — an export with a
transparent corner is refused before anyone looks at it.
Ten is the ceiling, not the target
The number that matters is not how many you may upload but how many are seen before a visitor decides. On a product page the first two or three occupy the visible strip; the rest require a deliberate horizontal swipe that most people never make.
So the first three carry the listing. Treat the remaining seven as material for the person who is already interested, and place nothing there that the decision depends on.
Per localisation is where the work multiplies
The limit is per class and per localisation. Five languages with captions means five sets to produce, and each one has to be checked at its own length — German and Finnish routinely need thirty per cent more room than English for the same sentence.
This is the argument for captions that are short by design rather than short after translation: a three-word caption survives every language, a twelve-word one survives none of them.
A practical order
Decide the three that carry the listing first, in the largest class you support. Write their captions at the length the narrowest language allows. Then, and only then, produce the rest — because the rest are optional in a way the first three never are.
