Measured, not estimated

Building this tool meant measuring a real wallet interface pixel by pixel. We publish what we found — including the figures Apple doesn't.

Points, pixels, and the scale factor

An iPhone screenshot is the screen measured in points, multiplied by the device's scale factor. Layout is done in points; the file you export is in pixels. Every figure further down this page is that multiplication and nothing else — which is why it can be checked rather than trusted.

Scale1 point equalsiPhones concerned
@3×3 pxEvery Pro, Plus and Max since the iPhone X, and the standard models from the 12 onwards
@2×2 pxiPhone 11, iPhone XR, and the iPhone SE

No iPhone still in circulation renders at @1×.

Native resolution, iPhone by iPhone

The right-hand column is the size a screenshot taken on that device comes out at, and the size to export at if you want no resampling anywhere in the chain.

The 14 Plus is not where people expect it. It is a 6.7-inch phone, but its panel is 428 × 926 pt — the geometry of the 12 and 13 Pro Max, not of the 15 Plus. Exporting a 14 Plus mockup at 1290 × 2796 gives an image 6 px too wide and 18 px too tall, which is enough for a status bar to sit a hair off.

Models we have not verified point for point are left out of this table rather than guessed at. A row that is wrong is worse than a row that is missing.

What App Store Connect accepts

Upload slots are grouped by display class, and most classes accept two sizes rather than one. The third column says which screen each pixel count is taken from — the same size can serve two classes, so a device listed there does not necessarily belong to that class.

Display classAccepted sizes (portrait)Where each size comes from
6.9″1320 × 2868 or 1290 × 279616 Pro Max, then 15 Pro Max
6.7″1290 × 2796 or 1284 × 277815 Plus, then 14 Plus
6.5″1284 × 2778 or 1242 × 268812/13 Pro Max, then 11 Pro Max
5.5″1242 × 22088 Plus

Check Apple's own page before you upload. The pixel arithmetic is stable — a 430 pt screen at 3× is 1290 px whatever Apple decides — but which sets are mandatory has changed several times, most recently when the 6.9-inch class appeared. Treat the column above as what fits, not as what is required.

Three rules reject more uploads than any wrong dimension: PNG or JPEG only, RGB and not CMYK, and no alpha channel — a PNG saved with transparency fails even when nothing in it looks transparent. The full list is in the screenshot sizes guide.

Safe areas on a 393 × 852 pt screen

These are the ones Apple does not publish as a table, and the ones a mockup gets wrong most often. Measured on a native 1179 px screenshot, not derived from a design file.

What the studio exports

My Larp Wallet composes on a canvas 923 px wide — a 393 pt screen at 2.3486× — and exports at 1179 × 2556 px. Going from one to the other is a single multiplication applied to the whole design, so nothing is resampled element by element and no hairline lands on a half-pixel.

That output is the 6.1-inch native size, and it scales cleanly into the 6.5- and 6.7-inch slots. For a 6.9-inch set built from scratch, design at 1320 × 2868 instead of enlarging a 1179 px image: upscaling shows on type before it shows anywhere else.

Where each figure comes from

Four write-ups, one per measurement session. They show the method as well as the numbers, so you can redo them on your own screenshots.
